DRDO added another product to its portfolio in a fight against COVID 19

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has another product in its portfolio, developed by Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) of Hyderabad in consultation with the doctors of Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC). COVID-19 sample collection Kiosk (COVSACK) helps healthcare workers to take samples of COVID-19 suspected infected patients.
How does it work?
This Kiosk has built-in gloves which are used by health care workers to take the oral or nasal sample by staying outside while the COVID 19 infected patient remains inside the Kiosk. Shielding screen of the Kiosk cabin protects the health care workers from the aerosols transmission while taking the sample which reduces the requirement of PPE change by health care workers.

Without the need of human involving, Kiosk is automatically disinfected, the cabin is mounted with four nozzle sprayers, after the patient leaves the Kiosk, sprayers spray disinfectant mist for 70 seconds and further, it is flushed with water and UV light disinfection and the system is ready for the next use in less than two minutes.

Dual use
COVSACK can be used in two ways either from inside or outside as required by the healthcare professionals where the doctor sit inside and the patient remains outside when the number of patients are more and this is possible as voice command can be given by the  two-way communication system integrated with the COVSACK.
DRDO has designed, developed and tested two units COVSACK, which are handed over to ESIC Hospital. Similar industries based on Karnataka and Belgaum can support 10 units per day.
